  • Place the Snout on Old Macdonald's Piggie

For a quick Old Macdonald game. Quickly make a picture of the face of a pig on a piece of paper but preferably do not yet draw the snout. You can draw, paint, collage or simply print off one from the Old Macdonald Animal Game above. Then with a lid from a plastic bottle place it in the right place on the picture and draw round it to show the snout's position. Then you are ready to play "Place the Snout on Old Macdonald's Piggie" the same way as Pin the Tail on the Donkey but this time the pig picture lies flat on the table and you take it in turns with your eyes closed placing the snout (bottle lid) in the right place.

  • Old Macdonald Farm Animal Hand Shadow Games

Another quick game with limited resources is to play farm animal hand shadow games. Obviously you will need a strong light (and some darkness!) a torch or phone light are excellent for this. Then take it in turns trying to make animal shadows on the walls. You could either chose an animal and see if everyone can make that shape or you can take it in turns making a shape and see who can guess the farmyard animal first.

  • Old Macdonald had a Dragon

For a different take on the classic nursery rhyme why not have a look at the book "Old Macdonald had a Dragon" by Ken Baker and Christopher Santoro. You can see a You Tube clip about it below but if you want to know further I am afraid you will have to buy the book which is easily found on line.

  • Here are some facts about farming. Did you know that
  • Around 10,000 BC cave men and women were the first farmers.
  • Cows can each produce 46,000 glasses of milk a year.
  • The United States is the World's largest exporter of wheat and soya. It produces nearly half of the corn and soya on Earth. The US also produces a quarter of the World's oranges.
  • According to the Guinness World of Records the World's (www.theguinnessworldofrecords.com) largest straw bale maze was recorded at Garden Cents (www.gardencents.com), Idaho, USA. It consisted of 3202 bales of straw with 1.6 miles of pathway both on the ground and on elevated 3d pathways.
  • The largest game of Old Macdonald had a Farm consisted of 356 participants and was achieved by Sally's Hootenanny (USA) at Allegory State Park in Salamanca, New York, USA on August 17, 2013. (www.theguinnessworldofrecords)
  • The words for the nursery rhyme Old Macdonald had a Farm have been fairly similar for about a hundred years but its origins are much older. Previously Old Macdonald was known as Old Macdougal and parts of the nursery rhyme have been recorded since 1719."There I keep my father's cows, there I Milk 'em Yearly: Booing here, Booing there, Here a Boo, there a Boo, everywhere a boo".(17-19 thomas D'Urfrey's Wit & Mirth, or Pills to Purge Melancholy an opera called the Kingdom of Birds).
